Diploma Course in Sports at National Institute of Sports Science

You can now apply to follow the Diploma Course in Sports conducted in Sinhala medium by the National Institute of Sports Science of the Ministry of Sports.


Educational and Other Qualifications :

The applicants should be between 18-35 years of age.

Should have passed G. C. E. Ordinary Level Examination in six (6) subjects with three (03) credits in not more than two sittings and two of the six subjects should be Sinhala or Tamil Language and Arithmetic or Mathematics.

In addition to the above, the applicants should have obtained other sports qualifications as stated in the government gazette.

Diploma Course in Sports – Details

This course has been conducted for more than three decades past students now serve as sports officers, physical training instructors in government and private sector organizations throughout the country. This Diploma is a requisite for recruitment and promotion of government sector employment. Candidates to follow this programme are selected on competitive selection process by a written examination followed by a practical test. Notice calling for applications appears in Government Gazette Notification annually.

Duration : 12 months ( Full Time Course)

Course Content:

1. General Theory of Training – Training principles, energy systems, training methodologies, training load, physical fitness, training plans
2. Compulsory sports – Volleyball, netball, football, gymnastics, basketball, kabaddi, swimming, cricket, weight lifting, judo, badminton, elle
3. Electives – Hockey, tae- kwon- do, karate-do, wrestling
4. Athletics – Short, middle and long distance running, track and field rules and regulations, throws and jumps
5. Specialization – Volleyball / Netball / Football
6. Auxiliary subjects – Exercise physiology, sociology, psychology, statistics, nutrition, biochemistry, sports medicine & first aid, Sport biomechanics

Course Fee:
Those who are selected to follow the course should pay a course fee of Rs. 30,000 before commencement of the course which is not refundable.
